I live about 20 minutes (by train) from Manchester and since having Teddy, I don’t visit anywhere near as much as I used to! However it is one of my all time favourite cities, there is so much to do & experience. Amazing restaurants, theatre shows & a range of hotels in Manchester city centre, to suit every budget, there really is something for everyone. I recently worked in collaboration with Hotels.com and I was gifted the spending money by them, but all views & opinions are my own. I thought I would share a city guide to Manchester.
FOOD & DRINK
One of my favourite things about Manchester is the incredible range of restaurants, cafes & bars there are, all in the city centre. The Printworks which is located less than a five minute walk away from Victoria Train Station has a whole host of places to eat & even houses nightclubs if that is something you are looking for. You will find the likes of Nando’s, Chiquito’s, Wagamama’s (my personal favourite) & even a VUE cinema in the Printworks. Also if cheap cocktails are your thing, they are definitely mine, then Yates or Bierkeller are the places to go.
Oxford Street is easily my favourite place in Manchester. Especially if you are looking for good food. Turtle Bay has the coolest vibes, amazing cocktails & if spice is your thing then I can’t recommend this place enough! The Paramount is a part of the Wetherspoons chain so good pub food at reasonable prices & cheap cocktails are always a winner here. It’s quite a large space but during peak times it can be extremely busy! If cakes & sweet treats are more your thing then I can’t recommend Patisserie Valerie’ enough, the cakes always look amazing and are the perfect afternoon treat.
Chinatown is a firm favourite amongst a lot of my friends for cheap, truly authentic food!
Cocktails are my go-to beverage when it comes to alcoholic drinks & I have my favourite places in Manchester that I know won’t disappoint. We have Cloud 23, which is located at the highest point in the city. It has floor to ceiling windows, serves delicious afternoon teas & all the cocktails you can think of. Also we have The Alchemist on New York Street is the first place I head when I want something delicious to drink. It has a great outdoor seating area, the quirkiest cocktails (I have one called Solero that literally tastes like a mango Solero with white chocolate foam and oh my god, nothing has topped that since) & incredible food.
THINGS TO DO
Manchester is full of incredible things to do! My favourite thing to do is watch a show at either the Manchester Palace or Opera House, I’ve watched so many musicals & ballet’s here with my mum, I love it. The city is also home to a variety of museums including the Science & Industry museum, the National Football museum and also the Manchester Art Gallery is a perfect way to spend the afternoon! As I mentioned there is a cinema in The Printworks, an Escape room in Exchange Square & you can never go wrong with a visit to The Comedy Club.
A great place to visit is where the campaign that brought the women’s vote, at number 62, Nelson Street. Now called the Pankhurst Centre, which was the home of Emmeline Pankhurst. The museum that plays tribute to the women who fought for equal rights is only open on Thursday’s, so if this is something you would really like to see, make sure to bare that in mind.
Not gonna lie, Manchester is the best city for a mega shopping trip. We have Selfridges, a HUGE Primark (I could easily spend a full day here) and Manchester Arndale is a shopping centre that houses more than 200 stores including Topshop, Next & Disney. There is also a Harvey Nichols if you fancy treating yourself, that has the ever gorgeous smelling Jo Malone shop. New Cathedral Street is great for designer shops including Ugg, Ted Baker & Louis Vuitton.
I honestly just can’t recommend Manchester enough if you are after a UK city break, it has something for everyone & I really enjoy the hustle & bustle, from time to time. I am definitely more of a quiet countryside girl but visiting the city is something I always really enjoy!
