Hello and Welcome! My name is Charlotte and I run a little corner of the internet called ‘Simply Together‘. It’s a parenting and lifestyle blog with a bit of everything else thrown in for good measure. What started as a place for me to update friends and family when pregnant with my little girl Molly, is now growing into something I never imagined. It has given me the chance to meet and interact with beaut humans from all walks of life. Rachael is one of them!!

Today I am going to talk to you about something you may or may not be familiar with. Stick with it, I promise you’ll want to join the club when you read more! If you have read my blog recently you will know that I am a sucker for essential oils. My Essential oils journey started over ten years when I was a teen. I have been a fan of their natural healing and health capabilities ever since. I used to have a oil burner, and used to burn them because I loved the smells that filled the room as I did college work or tried to relax.

It wasn’t until I fell pregnant with Molly that I decided to research a bit more about them and quickly fell in love with them and all of their benefits! If you are unsure of what essential oils are, they are the lifeblood of a plant, extracted via steam distillation and bottled for us to enjoy & to use to support our own body systems. While I love using oils for millions of different reasons and all year round, using them during the holidays is probably my most favourite, so I thought I would share all about using Oils for Autumn in this post!

Tis the season!! With the kids back to school, I can bet that they will, or have already caught the wonderful back to school bug/cold/general germs. This time of year can be so rough, so having great immune support is SO important. Many essential oils have antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal properties that help to boost your immune system and fight infections. Some of the best essential oils for your immunity include oregano, myrrh, ginger, lemon, eucalyptus, frankincense, peppermint and cinnamon. If any of us are feeling under the weather, or poorly sick as we call it, I normally pop a blend of ginger and lemon with a drop of oregano into the defuser. Or we get out the Thieves oil and pop a few drops into a 10ml rollerball (filled with carrier oil like coconut oil) and roll down our spines and on bottoms of our feet daily. Self care at its best! Love it!

Some essential oils have sedative properties and induce a calm, peaceful, uplifting and relaxed feeling. A few of my favourite diffuser blends for sleeping are Frankincense + Lavender + Orange or Sleep Assisting. We start our diffuser about 10-15 minutes before bedtime and it creates the most relaxing, calming environment that encourages the dreamiest sleep. Anyone that’s got a child who is reluctant to sleep – give this a whirl!

My skin has never been easy. I have always been lucky in the fact I have never suffered with acne or spots, but I suffer badly with dry skin, especially in the colder months. 3-4 years ago I came across this recipe, and have been using it ever since! I have found different variations too. So if this one isn’t for you, have a browse and you can find one that suits you. In a 1 oz.amber glass dropper bottle, 1 tbsp aloe vera gel (rich in vitamins c & e, helps to soothe skin & fight signs of aging), 15 drops Frankincense (brightens & tightens skin, fights blemishes & promotes healthy, glowing skin) and 5 drops Geranium (promotes cell regeneration & supports smooth, healthy skin) and top with coconut oil. Apply to clean skin each night before bed!

In Autumn everyone wants to make their house smell like a pumpkin patch or a stroll through the crunchy leaves right? Or maybe that’s just me. If that’s also YOU, then keep reading. Like every other blogger on the planet, I am a total candle obsessive. There’s nothing I like more on a chilly, Autumnal Sunday afternoon, than to fill the house with Christmass-y candles, turn the lights down and transform the house into a cosy, comforting, winter spice smelling wonderland. Because I like to have candles on the go basically throughout the entirety of Autumn and Winter, it’s a pretty expensive habit to maintain. I still buy the odd candle, but for the most part I diffuse essential oils instead. And rather than masking odours or other smells in your home, they also help to purify the air while making it smell good at the same time! Here are a few of our all time favourite Autumnal diffuser blends that I know you will love!

Autumn Leaves: 6 drops Orange + 1 drop Patchouli + 1 drop Ginger

Orange Spice: 5 drops Orange + 1 drop Cinnamon + 1 drop Clove + 1 drop Nutmeg

Warm Apple Cider: 3 drops Cinnamon + 3 drops Nutmeg + 4 drops Orange

Pumpkin Spice: 5 drops Cinnamon + 1 drop Clove + 1 drop Nutmeg

Pumpkin Pie: 4 drops Cardamom + 2 drops Orange + 1 drop Cinnamon + 1 drop Clove

Comfy Flannel: 3 drops Frankincense + 2 drops Orange + 2 drops Lavender

I hope you enjoyed reading all about using Essential oils in Autumn and have now gained some inspiration to try diffusing and mixing up your own blends! Thank you so much to Rachael for letting me write this and be a guest on her blog.

You can find me over on Instagram Twitter and Facebook too!
