I was tagged by my lovely friend Charlotte to join in with the Mama Tag & seen as Teddy is now fourteen months old – I thought I would give it a go! I absolutely love reading & taking part in tags as you can really get to know the person behind the blog.
THE MAMA TAG
HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU HAD YOUR FIRST CHILD?
24, I turned 25 three weeks after he was born!
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING PREGNANT FOR NINE MONTHS?
I am one of those annoying people who absolutely loved being pregnant, but I would have to say the hardest thing was definitely the nauseas and the tiredness in the first trimester! Luckily those both passed completely at around 12 weeks.
CAN YOU THINK OF ANY GOOD THINGS YOU ENJOYED DURING THOSE NINE MONTHS?
All of it! Like I said, I am one of those annoying people. My midwife described my pregnancy as ‘text book’ and it really was. I was so lucky.
IN YOUR OPINION, WERE ALL THOSE THINGS YOU HEARD ABOUT CHILDBIRTH ACCURATE OR WAY OFF?
Way off. I truly believe everyone’s experience is different and nobody can describe it to you. Especially with your first baby. You have absolutely nothing to compare it to. I heard more horror stories than positive ones & I took them all with a pinch of salt.
WOULD YOU HAVE HANDLED CHIL BIRTH DIFFERENTLY IF YOU COULD RE-DO IT?
Yes I really would. If you have read my birth & labour story, you will know I had quite a long & traumatic birth and there are a few things i’d love to do differently. Be a little more assertive would definitely be one of them. Especially with the first couple of midwives I saw. I’d also fight for a water birth!
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR ADVICE FOR SOMEONE ABOUT TO HAVE A BABY?
Take it as it comes. Especially your labour. You honestly can’t prepare fully as you never know what is going to happen. I was advised by my sister to go in completely open-minded. I literally had three things on my plan and those were more for AFTER the birth.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST THING ABOUT BEING A MUM?
Oh Christ…can I say all of it without sounding like a twat? LOL
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST REWARDING THING ABOUT BEING A MUM?
Watching my body help my tiny human to grow into the little toddler that he is. Breastfeeding has by far been one of my greatest achievements.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST SURPRISING THING YOU’VE DISCOVERED ABOUT BEING A MUM?
How fucking knackering & mentally exhausting it is! Nothing can ever, EVER prepare you. I hate to break it to you but that shit SUCKS.
WHAT IS THE BEST MEMORY YOU HAVE INVOLVING YOUR CHILD?
Oh god… far too many to count. The first time he successfully latched, the first time we co-slept, his first smile & giggle. There are too many.
WHAT WAS THE MOST EXCITING MILESTONE?
Every one so far. Every time they learn something new it’s incredibly exciting. You feel so proud.
WHAT IS THE WORST THING YOUR CHILD HAS EVER DONE?
He’s 14 months so I would have to say nothing that bad. YET. Possibly biting my nipples like a tiny twatting piranha.
WHAT HABIT DO YOU WISH YOUR CHILD DIDN’T HAVE?
He is currently going through a stage of pulling my hair & it hurts like a mother-fucker.
WHAT HABIT OF THEIRS MAKES YOU PROUD?
His unbelievable sass.
DO YOU SHARE ANY SIMILARITIES WITH YOUR CHILD (BOTH PHYSICALLY & PERSONALITY)?
Our big blue eyes & pouty lips, apparently. His stubbornness definitely. That’s all me.
WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR CHILD TO BE IN 10 YEARS?
I’d like him to be surrounded by all the love, enjoying school life with his friends and just unbelievably happy.
IS THERE SOMETHING THAT HAVING A CHILD HAS TAUGHT YOU?
That I don’t have time to give a shit. I’m a mum now, I don’t have time to fanny about. I definitely take that attitude everywhere with me. He’s given me even more confidence in standing up for what I believe is right. He has also taught me that I don’t have time for toxic ass people, both friends & “family”. We deserve to only be surrounded by people who lift us up.
DID YOU IMAGINE YOU’D BE A MUM AT THE AGE YOU BECAME A MUM?
I thought I would be younger to be honest! Possibly because me & Aaron have been together 10 years, this year. I’m so glad we waited though!
DESCRIBE YOUR CHILD IN ONE SENTENCE?
He is sunshine mixed with a little hurricane.
There you have it! The Mama Tag, thank you so much to Charlotte for tagging me – you can read her post here.
