It’s always exciting moving into your new home, well, for the most part it is. We won’t deny that for a lot of it, you’re just going to be feeling continual stress, and you might even consider delaying the moving out process altogether. Of course, these are extreme circumstances, and as long as you make sure that you’re prepared well before you even start looking at the houses that you want to buy, then you should be able to get through it just fine. But, we’re not here to talk about the buying process, you’re all going to be past that by now. We’re going to walk you through the decor and renovation changes that you might need to make to your home. If you’ve bought a new build, the need for renovation is not going to be there. In fact, you might not even need to do anything with the decor if you’ve bought a home that was already the way that you wanted it. But, there are some of you out there that are just itching to do up your first home, so here’s how we think you can make it totally magical!
Give Yourself A Blank Canvas
If you really just hate the decor of your home at the minute, or perhaps the furniture and other accessories just aren’t your taste, then give yourself a blank canvas. The taste of the person who owned the home before you might just not have been your cup of tea, but that
doesn’t mean you have to keep any of it. Rip down the wallpaper, take out anything that they might have left behind, and get searching for your own inspiration. You might have seen some really good interior decor ideas on Instagram or Pinterest, and you can source the items from the internet. When you give yourself that blank canvas, you also need to have an idea in your head of what you would like to go where. Hopefully you will have already bought the main bits of your furniture, such as a bed, sofas, and perhaps a coffee table. So arranging it to make sure that you have the best layout in all of the rooms, and that you find the room aesthetically pleasing, is really important. Don’t take your time with it either. There’s nothing worse than ripping out everything in terms of the decor, and then staring at blank horrible walls for weeks. You need to dedicate a weekend or more to it, and make sure that you get it done in a timely fashion. It’ll make it so much easier to settle into the home if you do it this way!
Decide If Rooms Need Renovating
If the home you’ve moved into isn’t brand new, then hopefully you’ve got some money spare to do some renovations. You should have noticed what might need doing, and what might be fine, when you were viewing the home. This early indication should have allowed you to save that little bit of extra money to go towards it, because everyone knows that renovations just aren’t cheap. So, first of all, let’s start with the bathroom. If you have an en-suite, it’s going to be the main bathroom of the home to you, and you really want it to be perfect. There are so many great bathroom designs out there are the minute, such as the spa bathroom design. You should make sure that you’re picking out a design that you’re going to love for years to come, and is going to help to make your bathroom nice and modern. So many people fail in this department, and can have a botched job done by a bad company. A good bathroom company will fit the suite perfectly, making sure that it is tailored to your needs with plenty of consultations beforehand. All you have to do is pick the design, and make sure you have a reputable company on your side. We know that bathroom renovations are expensive, but they’re more than worth it, and no work should need doing to it for years to come. The other renovation that you can consider is the kitchen, which will again add a ton of value to your home. Having a modern kitchen is not only good for money purposes if you were wishing to sell pretty soon, but it also helps to make the kitchen easier to work in, and can even create more space!
Making Things A Lil Cheaper
We know that everything we have listed so far is going to get a little bit expensive, so you need to make sure that you’re finding ways to make things a little cheaper. There isn’t much you can do in terms of the renovation, but when it comes to the decor and
accessories, there’s plenty you can do. For one, you could go to an antique show to see if you can get yourself something old and funky. Having a home isn’t all about making it super modern, it’s about getting the perfect mix of character and modern. Or, you could go to a charity shop to see if you can pick up furniture bargains such as a nice coffee table or dressing table. People throw them out because they’re moving home, even though the quality of the table is absolutely perfect! As for sofas, which we know can get super expensive, you just need to make sure that you’re going to secondhand shops, or finding show sofas. These are the ones that would have been used in the shop windows, and then put up for sale at half the price!
Once you’ve got your home the way you want it, it’s so important that you work to maintain it. Make sure you’re keeping the walls fresh by not knocking anything against them. Make sure you’re keeping the decor up to date as and when it needs it, which should be once a year. It isn’t hard to just change the decor, so definitely giving the walls a new lick of paint, or perhaps choosing a new wallpaper is a good idea!
