Let’s be honest, when you’re a mum, you don’t have hours to pamper yourself each day. However, that doesn’t mean you don’t want to look your best. Therefore, you really want to make the most of your skincare routine and make it as simple as possible, for maximum results.

To make sure we get the most out of what little free time we have, I’ve had a chat with the team at The Skin Repair Clinic and outlined their three steps to skin perfection.


The first step in your routine should be to cleanse your skin. This will remove your make-up, remove dead skin cells, and wash away sweat to help you look fresh and your skin healthy.

To do this, we would recommend opting for a creamy cleanser and lukewarm water to ensure you wash but do not dry out your skin. Then dab your face dry with a fresh, clean towel.

Top tip: rubbing your face with a towel can stretch your skin which could lead to wrinkles.


The next step is to tone your skin.

Toning your face, neck and décolletage ensures that you remove any make-up, oil or dirt residue which could clog your pores and lead to break-outs. Toner will also balance your skin’s pH, soothing and nourishing it in the process.

Ingredients like witch hazel and rose water are great for this – the former for combination skin, and the later for mature, dry or sensitive skin.

You can tone your face in a number of ways, however we love a good miscellar water as it cleanses and tones in one. This light product is ideal if you’re short on time. It’s a real all-rounder!

Miscellar water is gentle on skin, yet fast-acting – plus it’ll remove even the tiniest bit of mascara. Simply add to a cotton pad and apply to your face in a circular motion.


Once you’ve washed away all the dirt, it’s time to replenish the moisture. Using the right type of moisturiser can help if your skin is too dry or too oily, and prevent issues such as acne and other blemishes. It is also a vital step against fighting aging and those dreaded wrinkles. Pick a moisturiser that has SPF and is specifically designed for your skin type.

Top tip – moisturisers are most effective when applied to damp skin as it absorbs moisture better.

Treat: On Occasions

Of course, a good day-to-day skincare routine can keep your face looking clean, clear, and spot free, but sadly this can do little for treating existing wrinkles or scarring. But there is a solution.
