blogging equipment

I have been blogging now for six years, which seems crazy. What started off as a hobby where I rambled about my favourite beauty bits has now become something that I never dreamed it would be. To be honest, I never knew blogging could ever become more than a hobby, so when I realised you could make money or receive products it blew my mind. Over the years, my blogging has definitely changed and improved… I hope. So I thought I would share with you the blogging equipment and essentials that I use on a daily basis.

As I now earn money through blogging, it supplies a second income for us (nothing major but every little helps) so one thing I would recommend is getting insurance for your technology. We had our house broken into just before Christmas and LUCKILY they only took Aaron’s wallet – our laptop, television, my camera & some of our Christmas presents were in the same room. Which is why I say we got off lightly! It could have been so much worse. You can insure your gadgets from as little as £2 per month with Switched On Insurance .

LAPTOP

You don’t need an all singing all dancing laptop to blog – no way. Sure, a fancy ass MAC would be fabulous but the price tag aint’ for everyone. We bought a new laptop about a year ago & we just have a HP one. Don’t ask me which one because I couldn’t tell you. All you need to know is that it works & I can access the internet. Oh… & play Sims. What else does it NEED to do?!

CAMERA

The camera I have & have had for maybe….3ish years is the Canon 1100D. It was the most reasonably priced without having to sell an organ. I did use the basic kit lens that came with it (18-55mm lens) which did the job perfectly, however I did buy the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens just after Christmas & I absolutely love it. It is the perfect lens for that gorgeous blurred background – to give it its technical name – LOL

BLOG PLANNER

Aaron bought me my blog planner from Dot Creates, as a Christmas present and it’s perfect for blogging! I can write down blog post ideas, mark down monthly social media stats & keep a track of any sponsored content or gifted items. It really helps keep me on track and up to date with my blog, it also helps to motivate me!

BUFFER

I have been using BUFFER for around a year now & it is the best scheduling program I have used so far. I use it to schedule any tweets – sharing old & new blog posts throughout the day. I also schedule Facebook posts for my blogging page via the website. Sharing posts regularly on Twitter is brilliant for your traffic, don’t go overboard and spam your feed with blog links but a few times a day in-between your regular tweets is perfect. Twitter moves that quickly that it’s good to share when you can. I tend to schedule a days worth of blog link tweets first thing in the morning whilst Teddy has his breakfast.

IPHONE BLOGGING APPS

I recently did a full blog post on all the apps I use regularly, but I would highly recommend the WordPress app – purely so you can blog on the go with ease or make any last minute changes & updates without having to worry about having access to your laptop.

What blogging equipment do you use? Are there any essentials when it comes to your blog?

I love the idea of a blog planner! So far all I use to ‘plan’ posts is my drafts section where I just save titles. I use Hootsuite to schedule tweets but would you say Buffer is better? Fab post as always!!

It’s amazing! They also have a “daily planner” in Wilkos for £3/£4 that is perfect for blogging! I’ve never actually used Hootsuite – I love Buffer but you can only schedule 10 posts in advance (unless you pay) so I should find a alternative really. It’s just super easy! Xx

Oh I might have to go have a browse in Wilkos today and have a look! I think on Hootsuite you can schedule 30 without paying so maybe its worth a look? I tend to do a couple of days worth in one go and then forget about it for a bit!

You definitely should – I find planners help keep me more organised & I can roughly make notes on posts when motivation randomly hits!

Ohh I’m definitely going to have a look at that today! 30 is fab! Xx
