Why It’s Okay To Let People Go.

I’ve always had an issue with letting go. Whether it be a t-shirt i’ve owned for 10 years, a battered pair of shoes or in this case people. In particular friendships.
When I was younger, if I felt someone drifting away from me, i’d latch on. I became clingy and paranoid. Especially in high school. There is already so much pressure on you at that age, that the thought of being abandoned and forgotten by the people who keep you sane..there is nothing like it.
I tried being friends with everyone, I was definitely a people pleaser. I realised that no matter how hard you hold onto people, if they are going to drift and move on, they’re going to do it regardless. Relationships, whether that is friendships or lovers, will shift and change through our lives. That doesn’t make it any easier to accept.

I eventually noticed that some friendships are toxic, it’s all about what they can get from you and not wanting to give anything in return. A one sided friendship is not a good thing. Know your worth. There is only so many times you can let someone back out of plans last minute, putting other people before you. Not giving you a second thought.

Since i’ve become older and (not so much) wiser, i’ve become a lot more selective about who I let into my life. Mainly from bad experiences in the past, I am a lot more careful and stubborn about who I become friends with.

It’s okay to be more picky about who you have as your friends, they should be good honest people, that make you want to be the best version of yourself. Don’t settle for less than you deserve.

“Some people believe holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it.”

This is so true. I learnt this lesson a few years back and it's massively improved my life. Life is too short to be around people that don't make you happy.
